Jam of the Day- Feb 26, 2012

I apologize for missing a few days, but I am back in action. I started JOD to encourage anybody viewing this blog to share some of their own music with me. This is a two way street. That being said, feel free to share a track title with artist in the comments section and I will make sure to give it a listen.

Today's jam comes from solo artist Dan Andriano in the Emergency Room. Dan Andriano is currently the bassist for Alkaline Trio and is associated with multiple acts such as Slapstick, Tuesday, and The Falcon.

Already being a major fan of Alkaline Trio, I naturally embraced Dan's solo album without hesitation and was not disappointed in the slightest. If you haven't listened to any of my other posted tunes, I implore you at the very least, to listen to this one.

Although the album is less than a year old, Hurricane Season  will forever remain in my collection. It was difficult to pick my favorite track form this album as I love them all equally. Because I had to, I selected a track titled "Me and Denver."

My First Original Composition About Compositions

As some of you know, I started this blog to encourage myself to write. This is something I enjoy doing when I can keep a coherent thought in my head long enough to document it down in some sort of documentation thingy. As I start to write, I type out the basic premise of an idea and lose track because I think of what I'm going to make for dinner or something trivial akin to that (focus chubs!).

I'm currently constructing my first full short story (do those ideas conflict?) and am debating whether or not to post these works on this blog. I guess it would be rather asinine of me to write these stories only to have no one read them.

I tend to have great moments of inspiration for an activity or hobby for a few weeks at a time only to lose interest and move on to the next project. This time around I feel like I've got a good grip on my passion for writing and, whenever doubts arise, I write more anyway and that fire of self hatred quells itself.

I look forward to this journey of composing original works and hiding behind my words and ideas in the fetal position on my living room floor as you, the reader, judge for yourself whether or not I have something interesting to say.

Now I will desperately plug my blog... Encourage your friends and family (no trolls) to subscribe to Bucky's Blunders. Any valuable criticism is welcomed as to how you've perceived my writings or if you just want to tell me to fuck off.

"... This guy thought of 'Death Bed: The Bed That Eats People', and fucking finished it!"- Patton Oswalt, "Death Bed".

Jam of the Day- Feb 22, 2012

In an attempt to make up for missing yesterday's J.O.D. I am bringing out the big guns.

All it takes is one day of remotely warm weather to leave me craving the spring/summer like a daydreaming schoolgirl. Nothing says summer like "longboarding" music. I consider this to be upbeat reggae jams or skate punk.

To perhaps beckon the sunny time, carefree season, I bring you a tune called "Rent" by Pepper  from Kailua Kona, Hawaii formed in 1996 . A group I often call upon to open the mind and simply enjoy the pleasures of reggae, dancehall, or ska.

Let it possess you, engulf your senses, and drop that blood pressure.

*(Skip to track 2, I could not find a simple youtube video with album version. WTF is up with that?!)*

Jam of the Day- Feb 20, 2012

As I debated whether or not to post this installation of Jam of the Day, I realized if I didn't, I would probably never post on this blog again. Well maybe, but, I'm trying to keep some consistency.

A couple of weeks ago I discovered the local FYE was going out of business, thus, I took advantage of the 40-60% off of merchandise and bought a grip of tunes. A lot of which were bands I wanted to check out and wasn't very familiar with. I found a renewal of musical interest and a new lease on life!!! Well maybe that's a bit dramatic, but I take my music seriously.

The Briggs, a Celtic Punk band formed in Los Angeles in 2001, has found it's way into my collection and won my heart almost instantly. Their music style is much like that of The Dropkick Murphys or Flogging Molly, incorporating themes of brotherhood, fighting for your rights, or the old country. The anthem, "Back to Higher Ground" stuck out immediately to me and is the jam of the day.

See you next time!

Chesko George Lucas

Last night, my lady and I had the opportunity to go see Star Wars Episode I in 3D ( being such a nerd, I bet you are surprised I have a girlfriend). Let me just start off by saying I am, by no means, a HUGE Star Wars fan. However, I do enjoy the series and have a fond memory of my oldest Brother, Brandon, taking me and a couple of friends to see Episode I for my 9th birthday.

The re-release of this film was a major, steaming pile of bantha poodoo. I expected to see some spectacular effects in the 3D aspect, but was sorely disappointed. They had an opportunity to make it awesome, but failed miserably.

I highly discourage anyone from wasting their money on such an endeavor.

Now I am calling upon Mr. Patton Oswalt to really fulfill his vision, acquire a time machine, and go back to kill George Lucas with a shovel.

May the for.... I'm not even going there.

Jam of the Day Feb 19th 2012

Well here we are again for the next installment of my jam collection. If you are still with us and plan to continue following, you'll notice a lot of my collection is that of a Ska/Reggae/Punk genre. If you're one of those people that say, " I listen to everything" because you can't decide for yourself what your likes/dislikes are, you are just plain wrong and should crank your Good Charlotte   album until your eardrums burst and continue to bleed you out. Granted there are a few of you which I permit to claim you are well-rounded listeners. But, most of you are liars and are afraid to admit what your preferences are, as it may discredit you amongst your musically inclined friends or colleagues.

Moving on, today's jam comes to us from a Ska/Reggae band called The Supervillains from St. Cloud, Florida. They started up in 1998 and have moved up in the ranks in the last few years to jam in the same league as Slightly Stoopid, Pepper, The Expendables, and many more. Their music style is much like that of any typical Ska/Reggae ensemble including a couple of gooseflesh inducing cover songs.

There is not much of an extended history to tell, as of yet, for The Supervillains but I guarantee they will secure a well-deserved location in every modern-day rude boy's music collection.

This track, titled, "20 Excuses" comes from the band's 2006 album Grow Yer Own. It reminds me of about this time last year when things were changing in my life for the better and I knew that this was only the beginning of my metamorphosis into an awesome adulthood experience.

Have yourself a listen
and maybe I'll see you at the next Supervillains concert.

Jam of the Day- Feb 18th 2012

As I attempt to get into the rhythm of maintaining this blog, I will be posting a song of the day including band info etc, etc.... Hopefully by doing this I can expose my friends and family to the music I enjoy and, in the process, maybe turn them on to something they may have never thought THEY would enjoy.

The first band I bring to you is Descendents. They were originally formed in Manhattan Beach, CA by guitarist Frank Navetta, bassist Tony Lombardo, and drummer Bill Stevenson as a new wave group in 1978. In 1980, the group enlisted a childhood friend of  Bill Stevenson, named Milo Aukerman, as a singer. The group then changed their appearance to punk rock in the up and coming hard core scene of Los Angeles. Their style of music is influenced by the experience of being a "geeky", angsty, suburban kid that is often misunderstood and picked on at school (this style would then later be ripped off by front man Rivers Cuomo of "Weezer" formed in 1992. But I digress). After many hiatus' and reformations of the group throughout the years, Descendents are currently active and play many shows and festivals.

Here is the first bit of my collection. A little Gem I pass on to you. This is probably my all-time favorite jam by Descendents. Embrace this track as if it were your first born child! "Clean Sheets" comes from their 1987 studio album "ALL" and was then re-released on a compilation album called "Somery" in 1991.

Enjoy! (no pun intended Descendents fans).

Feel free to post your favorite jams in the comments section below.

Out to Pasture

So it's come to this. I'm launching a blog if you haven't come to that conclusion yourself already. I've decided to let you in on the most intimate details of my life whether you agree upon it or not.  After all, let's be honest, you all need to read a book (or blog). I start this blog off on a good note. This will be a chronicle of my thoughts, interests, and everyday happening. At times my writings may seem cruel, unnecessary, or even inappropriate. Ride that wave and I promise my writing will have something to offer those of you who keep an open mind and enjoy the simple pleasures of life.

Let's take this quest together and conquer all of our fears, desires, and crush our enemies to oblivion.

Until next time, I'm out!
